Become a Town Councillor

DO YOU WANT TO HELP GET THINGS DONE IN YOUR COMMUNITY?

ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT HOW CUT BACKS MIGHT AFFECT YOUR LOCAL SERVICES?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A MORE ACTIVE ROLE WITHIN YOUR COMMUNITY?

With the advent of the Big Society and the Localism Act, there is an increased focus on local government and citizens taking more responsibility for the running of their local areas.

The first tier of local government is the Parish or Town Council.  Herefordshire is 100% parished, which means everyone can participate and contribute to the running of their communities.  This means YOU!  YOU can make a difference!

An analogy for how this works is the tandem bicycle, which has double the pedalling power of a conventional bicycle.  In the context of local democracy, this means that citizens working with their Parish or Town Council are the most powerful force for community development.  The Parish or Town Council is the front rider, leading the tandem, but without the power provided by the second rider (the community), the tandem will go nowhere.  You and your Parish or Town Council, working in tandem, can be the driving force behind shaping your community for years to come!
